"Flashing" a 9800 to a 9800Pro...???? Howto?

I've got a 9800 non-pro I'd like to up to a Pro. I've read a lot about people doing this...

It has a Red PCB and has the samsung memory in it, so it should do just fine according to what people say.

Only thing is, I don't know where to download the firmware at? I can't seem to find anything at ATI's site. Also, I need the utility too. I asume it's similar to a mobo flash util... boot from a floppy (or whatever)...etc.

I have a fat32 partition I can put the util and firmware on and run it from their.

Thanks in advance.

This will void the warranty, and is not endorsed by ATi, which is why there's nothing on their site for it.

Congrats on the upgrade. I've got one myself. Paid less than $250 for a 9800 "pro" when the real pros were going for $399! 😀

I always find it amazing how a few Mhz increase on the core and mem warrants an extra $150... all I can say is THANK GOD for overclocking!

Or in my case... soft-modding...😉

Good job🙂

I love overclocking

My sapphire 9800nonpro does 452/411 before artifacting, it has stock cooling and a bios flash 😉

it runs faster than my 9800xt

now the only problem is finding which 9800s don't have the infineon RAM chips.

the hercules card comes with 2.8ns samsungs, but they cost just as much as the pros.
is there a list which tells us which 9800NPs are good and which to avoid?

Hardware Required:

-> Sapphire Atlantis 9800, PowerColor Radeon 9800, Hercules Prophet 9800 or any ATI Radeon 9800 Non-Pro with Samsung 3.3, 3.0 or 2.8ns DDR memory modules.
-> PCI-based video adapter (for emergency BIOS restoration purposes only)
-> 2 Freshly Formatted Floppy Disks

Sapphire Atlantis 9800, PowerColor Radeon 9800, Hercules Prophet 9800 or any ATI Radeon 9800 Non-Pro with Samsung 3.3, 3.0 or 2.8ns DDR memory modules

AFAIK, the sapphires can sometimes come with infineons.
and regarding "any ATI Radeon 9800 NP" ... that's precisely the problem.
which freaking ones are they?

I thought the extra money was for not only the higer core frequency, but also faster memory as well.
