what does "flashing" exactly mean? does it mean overclocking the memory to the speed of XT? or is it using drivers for an XT on pro?

now from what ive read you have to have an r360 core, and a zalman fan is recommended. is the performance increase worth it?

If you don't know what "flashing" means then i wouldn't. o/c it to xt speeds and you will see very similar results

flashing means actually changing the bios on the card to that of a 9800 xt, not recommended unless you know what you're doing.

If it helps any, I flashed my Sapphire 9800pro 256/256 to an XT and changed to the Arctic Cooler VGA Silncer rev3.

Using the Doom 3 timedemo, I picked up roughly 5 fps.

I ran the demo 3 times for every change I made. Stock card; new cooler; and then flashed to XT speeds. It went from 24.3 to 29.7.

P-4 2.53, 1gig pc-3000 corsair XMS, Intel 845pebt2.

You should ALWAYS try overclocking to xt speeds first and taking off the hsf to make sure it is anr r360 core.

I pulled the stock HSF first to verify the core, then re-installed the stock HSF with AS-5 before moving forward.

Did you test it's overclocking by getting it to run at XT speeds? If it can't run artifact free at those speeds when you flash you are going to have loads of trouble. Also make sure you backup your original BIOS. I personally wouldn't recommend flashing, I would just see how well you can oc your card as is. Just invest in better cooling for it.

Yeah I think ATI Tool or Sandra will tell you the core.

Yeah I think ATI Tool or Sandra will tell you the core.

ATI Tool is NOT a reliable way to determine core type.
