Flashed my Liteon cd-rw/dvd combo drive and now getting coasters

ok i thought it would be a good idea to upgrade the firmware of my cd burner. the newest firmware claims to increase writing abilities and greater media compatibility. the upgrade was a success but when i went to burn a new cd, my current batch of Fuji's use to burn at 48x but now would only burn at 40x. not only that but i'm getting a $hitload of coasters which i wasn't before.

when i burn cds on my dvd burner, everyone of them came out fine but of course it was only burning at 24x. i'm suspecting it's the firmware that is causing this. from my experience Fuji blanks have been quite reliable for me with my setup.
 
what software are you using?

Sometimes a reinstall of the burning program will help in this sort of trouble.
