Hi

I recently tried to update my BIOS using the latest version on dfi.com for my Lanparty UT Sli-DR. I used winflash and followed the instructions properly, it said that the update was successful and that I should reboot, so I did.

Now my PC won't even boot. When I press the power button, I hear the fans and hard drives working, but my monitor stays in sleep mode and nothing much else happens. There are no beeps either.

My specs:

DFI Lanparty UT Sli-DR
2x 6800Us
AMD 4000+ CPU
2g of ram
OCZ GameXtreme 600w PSU
Windows Vista home premium

All the components worked fine before the flash.

reset CMOS for 30seconds with the power switched off or unplugged from the PSU.

If that doesn't work you have a bad flash and it's why I never use WIndows to flash.

Reset the CMOS based on the precedure described in your MB's manual.

Some MB's require the battery removal and jumper placement on the Reset CMOS pins, so make sure you do it properly.

Good luck!

Yeah, I mean I never expected to be able to do the update within Windows. I had a diskette ready and everything, and then I noticed the Winflash instructions on DFI's website. It seemed so simple, so I took a shot at it... and now here I am...

I'll try doing what you guys suggested and then report back later today, thanks much.

Hey guys.

Thanks for the advice. I never took apart components in my PC before and it was an educational experience. I was always afraid of breaking stuff, but to my surprise the parts are solidly built and everything went fine.

I reset the CMOS, the pins were a pain in the ass to switch, but it worked out great. I still want to update my bios though, should I do so using the normal way or just leave it alone for now?

I think you already did...no? Check your Bios version.

I thought resetting CMOS rolled back the version. Lemme check.

EDIT: The date corresponds with the latest version.

nah, resetting CMOS just resets user specified settings for the bios. it doesnt roll the bios back. the bios is coded into a flash chip (non volatile memory) while the cmos is volatile memory. hence, the battery.
