Flashed my BIOS but...

Hi all

Manufacturer : MSI Model : MS-6741 Version : 1.0

I have just flashed my BIOS using the MSI live update and although the computer boots up OK it takes about a minute longer.
Everytime it boots it comes to a new screen that has on it
client mac address (12 numbers) guid (32 zero's) DHCP...(a spinning fan like timer??)
it stays here for at least a minute then boots normally.

After flashing it gave a CMOS wrong settings warning

Can anyone please help resolve this issue
Thanks in advance
Smoggy

Three possiblities to check:

1. Try clearing the CMOS with the jumper. When you reboot, it will be to the system defaults, which may make it easier for the board to detect your hardware correctly. Boot up, and immediately hit the <Del> key severaly times to enter the CMOS and set your preferences.

2. DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. This article on wikipedia suggests your problem may be related to your network or a setting for it in your CMOS.

3. (Not likely, but...). MSI has two motherboards with your model number, K8TM-ILSR and K8MM-ILSR. The only difference appears to be that the first one has onboard video, but they have different BIOS version numbers:

BIOS for K8TM-ILSR

BIOS for K8MM-ILSR

The BIOS version number usually appears quickly when you first power up the machine. Hit the <Pause> key to stop it and confirm you have the right BIOS for your board. You used their live update so it's probably correct, but there's always the chance it isn't. 😛

Finally, I've had great luck with MSI's tech support. Select your market region from this page, and fill out their support form. They may have more possilbe solutions for you.

Good luck. 🙂

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply
The only things I know about motherboards is what I've picked up Googling.
So I would like to ask a couple of questions about clearing CMOS
If in the BIOS I reset system defaults is this the same as clearing with the jumper (I guess not).
Is the correct way to clear, isolate all power - set jumper to 2,3 - power on then off and set jumper back to 1,2
Couldnt see anything in the Bios settings relating to network settings.

According to Si Sandra
System BIOS : 63-0305-009999-00101111-040201-VIA

Thanks again

It should be the same, but if there's a problem with the flash, using the jumper or removing the battery for 30 seconds to a minute may be the only way to be sure it reverts to the default setting.

Follow my previous instruction, and get it from the initial screen. It probably has a VIA chipset, but you're looking for an AMI BIOS version.

Find the BIOS area dealing with boot devices, and make sure that your hard drive is the only thing set bootable. Sounds as if your network card is set as a boot device, and is waiting for a timeout (no DHCP) before continuing.

Hi
Problem sorted...Yes it was the Boot sequence

1st Option was Floppy
2nd Option was disabled (must have changed with Flashing)
3rd Option was CD/DVD
4th Option was Other (Ethernet Card was in amongst the choices)

Set 2nd option to Hard Drive and all now OK

I would like to thank you all (especially Harvey & Zap) for taking time out to solve my issue it was very much appreciated
