Flashed BIOS - Now it won't boot

I think I just killed my BIOS. I performed a BIOS update to the latest version using the Asus Update utility in Windows. After it shut down the PC I can't get back into Windows. Now when I boot it up all of the fans come on and the hard drives turn on but I don't get anything on the display. There is also a green LED that stays lit all the time. Is there any way to recover from this?

doh... I've done that to my P5W Dh three times now... so I've had to order bios chips from Asus 3 times... and the strange thing is that the price has gone up $5 dollars each time... 1st time bricked (Jan 07) $5... 2nd time bricked (june 07) $10... 3rd time bricked (Sep07..last week) $15... i don't freakin understand it either... I was using asus update utility to do it too.... I'm running vista64 bit.

But I just updated my sister's computer (P5B-E) with the latest bios and had no problem... I used the latest update utility too (7.10.01.. .i think).. i down loaded it as a *.rar file and used winzip to unzip it... and installed and flashed bios with no problem...

but that same program bricked my P5W DH... i'm starting to get leery of using thier stuff because of it...

Well, I fixed it. I went to the Asus site and downloaded the user manual for this board here:
http://support.asus.com/downlo...d.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Then followed the instructions for resetting CMOS. This included removing the battery, disconnecting power and moving the CMOS jumper.

That must have worked because when I powered it back up it booted into Windows.

However, the second time I booted it stated that I had invalid overclocking settings. I reentered BIOS and modified the RAM voltage and timings to manufacturer's specs and had no further issues.

Guess I shouldn't have jumped on the panic button so quickly.

I'm glad that worked for you... it has yet to work for me on my P5W DH.. i'll try it again just to see though 😉

I would use a floppy drive for flashing, if you're trying it from windows. They cost about $12-15, or as little as $5 used at goodwill or local pc shops.
