Flash Question for Sony Alpha A100

I have a Sony HVL-F1000 flash that I use with my Sony DSC R1 camera and was wondering if there is any reason not use one of these hot shoe adapters...

any advice is appreciated...Thanks.

The adapters should work fine. I've heard of several people who have had good luck with them. Since the flash worked fine with the R1, it should wotk fine with the adapter for the A100.

I do not know, however, whether the flash will meter properly with the A100, but worst case scenario is that you just have to use it completely manually.

From what I have read about the adapters, you will have to use the flash manually. Otherwise, the flash will fire at full power every time. So, if the flash you have won't allow manual control on the back, your use of it on the A100 will be very limited.

Honestly, it's worth the money to save up for the Sony HVL-56AM flash at $350. You can do some amazing things with the tilt/swivel and the wireless capabilities. There might be an update of the flash coming for PMA (just a wild guess because the new flagship model will be out then). I'd say you can get a Konica-Minolta flash used, but the prices of those are higher than new Sony prices!!

You can pick up the lower flash, the 36, for about $150.

If the flash has an internal thyristor, he can use the flash's own automatic mode. Not as good as TTL metering, but better than full manual.
