Flash can be set to Never Update, Update Automatically or Notify About Updates.
In Windows 10 with IE11 you have no choice as the Flash Update for IE11 comes
from Microsoft (IE11 will not let you manually update the Embedded Flash Player)
Of course, Microsoft never has the Flash Update as fast as what is posted on the
Adobe site.

Yes, flash usually updates automatically if you set that but I've noticed that in the past, sometimes it takes some time to do the update and other times it doesn't even update automatically between versions. Also, I have seen it prompt to update it when you log in, instead of updating by itself in the background.

21.0.0.213 is out now and release notes will be here once they update the page:

Thanks Chiefcrowe!

Does anyone know if there is any way at all to update flash for IE manually in Windows 8.1 without going through Windows updates? I really hate not being in control of my computer.

Did the update today to 21.0.0.213 .. and as far as I know, you can not manually update the Flash used in Internet Explorer 11 used in Windows 10 (and probably in Windows 8) .. I also prefer to do it myself, as then I can do it as soon as it comes out. But Microsoft decided to embed the Flash Player Plugin in IE11 and as such, they send out and install the update.

Thanks. I just checked Windows for updates and the only one I see is from last month.

I just opened IE11 and ran a test on Flash Player and also checked in the Add Ons list and it is at version 21.0.0.182 in IE11 Embedded .. which according to the Adobe Flash Download page is what it should be for IE11 Embedded

The best update for flash is the uninstall button. Just use Chrome and wait for Edge to sandbox it and you never have to run that portal to hell ever again.

Disabling Flash completely is actually one of the best ad blockers you can have. No software required.

I know some people use and need flash. Can you folks tell me what exactly you need from it these days? Not sure if people actually need it or if they just have it out of habit.

Doesn't Flash update automatically?

Mine does at any rate I guess.

Have never bothered to set it otherwise.

Sorry, I dislike Chrome.

Might have to mess around with Edge again a bit, getting ready to see if they've updated the Redstone on the last WIN X insider 14316.

Haven't installed it yet, the wife is going to bed so i think I will.
