Flash FreeBSD or Linux over Qnx Neutrino

I have an industrial fanless PC on my desk which contains a PowerPC processor running Qnx Neutrino.

Generally speaking, is it possible to flash linux or FreeBSD or some other open source OS on this and overwrite the Qnx OS? What would the steps be to do this? Would i have to use the TTL serial port or can i use telnet/ssh and ftp?

I have a little knowledge of Linux but not much but i understand the concepts.

This device has two ethernet ports and some flash memory and think it would make a good DIY router but i just need to flatten it.

Any help or guidance appreciated!

Cheers.
James.

I think we need to know what the hardware is, not just the software.

I've seen Yellow Dog Linux running on PowerPC, but that was on a Mac back when Macs used PowerPC.

It's a powerpc 405 chip. I know the packages exist but I don't know how to go about it. I can log in via telnet/ssh but I don't know where to go from there.

Surely there are some root level commands I can run to flash a linux image down...

As i say its running Qnx and BusyBox. What commands would i use?

I have no idea how to go about it, but I'd look at Debian. It supports PowerPC, as well as a network install. You might be able to do something with that. Maybe someone else has already done it, and you could follow them.

FreeBSD should work. If not, you can always look at NetBSD, which will provide a similar experience to FreeBSD, and is designed to work on a larger variety of hardware.

As to exactly how you would flash your QNX box, I would not know, but you can always post on the FreeBSD or NetBSD forums to see if someone there has tried it!
