Flash firmware and boost the signal?

glen

Lifer
I have a Linksys E1000 v1
I cannot find the option to boost the signal, so I assume I need to change the firmware to a version that will allow me to manipulate the signal. I am sure there are some posible pitfalls such as bricking a router or burning it out faster. It used to be the case, I believe, that the radios were very conservatively set up and often you could safely boost the signal a little bit. Is this still more or less true? Is it true for the E1000 v1?

I've not had a whole lot of luck with the e1000 in general. As far as boosting signal, some 3rd party software like tomato/ddwrt allow for signal manipulation but this often times leads to you using more power than fcc allows and is not recommended.

Yeah you can boost the signal and some small Boost might provide few addtional feet of covarage.

However there is a functional limitation. Good Wireless signal is a matter of low SNR (Signal to Noise ratio) when you boost the signal you boost the noise as well, so it is Not really functional to boost much.

You are better off buying a second inexpensive Wireless router and use to Wireless sources.

Boosting can be with Routers that can be flashed with DD-WRT
