My wife just told me she found couple of flags drives in the drier. I had a couple in my pocket and they have been through the washer and the drier, so what does ATOT think, will they still work?

Trying to set up a poll, will see if it works. Go easy on me because this is my first time.

BTW, the drives are still on the drier downstairs, too early in the morning to go get them. I am still drinking my coffee.

I've run numerous flash drives through the washer and dryer. Four out of five times they will work. On the one that did not, I just reformatted and it still worked fine.

Instead of a poll, why don't you plug them in and see if they still work? That's what normal people would do.

His wife probably won't talk to him, after he asked her why she didn't check the pockets before washing and drying the pants.

I was still drinking my coffee upstairs and was too lazy to walk all the way downstairs. Unfortunately my house was built in that era where laundry rooms were shoved in the deepest darkest corner. Now a days the laundry room is being built right next to the bedrooms. That would have saved me from making this social blunder. :(

I also thought that people could share their stories, like maybe the time someone found a flash drone in their pocket at work and when they opened up the file it turned out to be their homemade porn on it. So now everyone at work calls him Big Stallion.

I take it you voted that I am an idiot.

usually you only have to worry if electronics get wet when they are powered.

Yup, mostly.

Water problems:
- Powering it up too soon after it was wet, so it's still wet. There are a lot of cramped spaces in typical circuitboards where water can wick into and stay for awhile.
- Corrosion. If it is allowed to remain stagnant for days or weeks, it can corrode contacts and you'll get blue crystal deposits here and there.

Getting it dried out quickly is best. Then when you think it's dry, keep drying it for a few more days just to be sure.
(Or I could take it to work. We have dry storage cabinets for parts, <1% humidity in there.)

2 weeks ago I looked in our jacuzzi saw an iPhone. Turns out my son's cell phone fell in there. I shook out all the water I could and did the old bag of rice trick. We got lucky and it powered up the next day. I think we got lucky because he had a cover on it and that kept a lot of the water out.

I've had flash drives, memory cards, DS games, GB games, and GBA games get run through the washer. I have yet had any go dead from the washer.

So if everyone had answered "no" to the poll would you have tried it anyway?

About 12 years ago, I bought a 256MB flash drive for $180 at a CompUSA. I'm still using it as my main flash drive. It's been washed many times and still functions just fine.
