Flash Drive Through the Wash

Paratus

Lifer
My Sandisk Cruzer Titanium 512mb went through the washer and dryer. Any chance it still works? I'm planning on waiting until tomorrow before trying it out. Is there anything else to do?

I've got some important work files on there which I backed up a couple of weeks ago so it won't be a complete loss if its dead.

If it's easy to open up do that and dry it off using a hair dryer, let it sit in different positions for a decent amount of time incase there's water

Damn thing is made of titanium and I'm not sure how to get inside it. So I guess I just need to wait. 🙁

What brand of detergent?
I would wager that the .exes, MP3s, and .txt files will be OK, but the Pr0n will be gone😛

I know at least 2 other people (on ATOT) have had the same situation with their Sandisk Cruzer and everything was cool. No data loss.

Mine survived a day in the pool (yes I forgot my keys in my shorts😱)

GF's made it throught both the washer & dryer w/ no probs.

Let it dry out for a few days, plug it up & pray.

I think it's plug n' pray in any case if you're on Windows ME or something, plug and play never really worked 😛

Just like a gold pen isn't solid gold, a Titanium flash drive won't be solid titanium.

No kidding!

The problem was the actual flash drive is encased in titanium shell. The shell looks press fit so there's no screws or tabs to pop open to get at the guts. It's a pretty solid design. Plus the USB connector retracts into the shell so its really hard to damage it or open.
