Have a Corsair Flash Voyager that popped out of it's rubber enclosure. Is it ok for me to daub a little super glue on the rectangular black thing (number 4 in the picture--sorry, don't know the technical name for the component), or would it be better to do it lengthwise along the sides?

Just wrap it in some tape and keep using it. I "found" a 4gb usb Sandisk cruzer and got sick of the useless plastic housing and just wrapped in scotch tape and sharpied it black. Works just fine 1 1/2 years later.

Epoxy puddy

It's tough, can be molded into whatever shape you like, and has high resistance (electrons can't easily pass through it).

If you're going to epoxy it, first make sure the solder joints for the usb connector are good.

#4 is the flash chip itself. Super glue and rubber glue are good for rubber enclosures.

Should have been a little more clear, it looks like. The above pic is not my actual flash drive, but it's the only pic I could find quickly that showed the flash chip (according to bryanl) itself. I still have the enclosure, and it's in fine shape. I was just wondering a)what the best adhesive would be to use, and b)can I squirt it directly on that flash chip, or do I need to be avoiding contact and try a slim bead along each side.

Sorry about the confusion. Hopefully this helps.

I would use silicone adhesive. Squirt it into the cover and press the USB back in and let it set.

It won't interfere with the functioning of the stick to get that adhesive all over everything?

You will never be able to work on it, because removing the glue would be destructive, but it won't hurt anything else.

Sounds good. Don't care about messing with it in the future, as long as the current fix keeps it from popping out ever time I remove it. Gracias everyone.

just roll with it naked.

i have a naked 1gb usb stick from 2006, still rollin strong.

Thought about it, but part of the reason I got the Corsair Flash Voyager is because it is wicked durable, and it spends a lot of time in my backpack getting tossed around with paper clips, pens, and other stuff. So not an option.

It should be perfectly safe unless everything is encapsulated thickly with the adhesive, which could, under extreme conditions, make the stick overheat. But if that happens with silicone adhesive, you can simply peel it off. Do let the adhesive cure completely before using the stick, and silicone cures from moisture in the air.
