Have a Silicon Power Touch 835 32GB Waterproof USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model SP032GBUF2835V1T that died last week.

Also have a G.SKILL 32GB Micro SDHC Flash Card w/ SD Adapter Model FF-TSDG32GA-C6 that also died.

For both the flash and micro sd card, have tried multiple pc's with the same result. Windows will load the drivers and then fail, windows safely remove hardware icon will show the device but doesn't disconnect it.

Have tried removing and reinstalling that particular usb mass storage device in device manager with no result.

Same issue occurs on two windows 8.1 machines and a windows 7.0 machine.

Both the flash drive and the sd card have some sensitive data on them, so i prefer not to send it back to the manufacturer for replacement until i am certain the data can be erased.

Does anyone have any solutions to get the devices to be read in windows or should i just take a pair of sheers and cut them up for the trash.

Well, if you tried it on multiple machines, and it didn't work, then, it don't look good.
While a longshot, you may have some better luck by booting a linux boot CD/pen drive and see if that can read anything.

Otherwise, hammers work well to make sure nobody else can read it with more advanced equipment.
