Flash BIOS on ASUS K7M... what to do , what to do.

I had purchased an HP Pavilion 8662 Desktop from ebay, I opened it up to see the computer and analzyed all parts of it. In conclusion I figured out that the so called Hewlett Packard motherboard is a slightly modified Asus K7M. Except there is NO ISA Slot, AMR slot, like in the Retail Asus K7M. I was planning on Flashing the BIOS to an ASUS BIOS instead of a HP one. My question is will the Asus BIOS work on the HP model, or will it just lock up and good bye Athlon system. Any one ever tried switching BIOS to an almost same motherboard?? Need so help. Thanks for looking.

The reason I want to do is because WIndows 2000 Pro does not install properly (I tested all other parts works fine) except I get a BSOD and it says I have a Partial ACPI BIOS and I need it upgraded to support FULL ACPI protocol. HP has no support for this.

This is not warranted advice.

If I remember correctly when you use the Asus flash utility it gives you the option of saving the current BIOS. So you could try the flash, save the current BIOS and if the update fails return the BIOS to its original state.

I know of the BIOS save option in the Asus Flash Utility, still I am afraid, if it SUCCESSFULLY flashes, but I cannot get a POST I am screwed for certain and I just cant risk it. Man o Man.

Funny you should mention that particular mobo... I just traded some stuff for the same board, (Rev. 1.06 correct?) and Slot A 950 T-Bird. I was thinking about flashing the BIOS over to the latest ASUS version myself. I have a BIOS Savior that will fit that BIOS chip. If you can wait until tomorrow, I will flash it and post the results. (Unless someone else that has already done it posts before ;) )

Technonut, that would be great man. I'd sure like to see how yours came out. Unfortunately I have a PcB version of 1.04 (NO AMR/NO ISA) I mean it is a K7M but ehh.. I should have bought an AK72 when I had the chance. Ohh Well the Asus is stable though.

Mine is missing the ISA slot, only has 2 DIMM slots, no dipp switch controls, and 1 rear serial port. I will post my flashing attempt later today.

EDIT: The Rev. 1.06 that I have was a HP build also.

Well, the news is not good... Even with a BIOS Savior, the HP version of the K7M will not accept the ASUS BIOS. Link.
Micro Firmware part number H6JS10 is specifically designed for use with the HP Pandora/Pangea motherboard (see model list below).( Your model# is not listed.) This motherboard was made by ASUS for HP and is labeled model K7M, althogh the BIOS is not interchangeable with the ASUS K7M board.
The above link sells a replacement upgrade chip for $69.95. :Q I have a "want to buy post" on the For Sale Forum looking for either an ASUS K7V-T or MSI K7-Pro.

EDIT: The latest HP BIOS for your board ...( pand_200.exe Version: 2.00 07-25-00 ) can be found by searching your model# Here
