Flash A7V BIOS on a different motherboard?

I think the un-updated version I have (I'll check the # later) is causing problems (as in nothing at all works.) Where can I buy a new chip? Obviously I can't flash seeing as nothing turns on. Thanks.

Chris

(alot of A7V posts today eh?)

seriously, I would call ASUS to make sure I get the right stuff. I think they have very good support, shouldn't be a problem

When you say that nothing works, do you mean that it doens't power up or anything? If that is the case, it may be that one of your components is loose.

Try taking out the cards, mem, ATX power, and CPU. Then, put back the CPU, mem, power, and AGP card, making sure that all of them are firmly seated.

You may also want to check whether the power andre4set switch are properly connected.

You can always go buy an empty FlashROM chip from your local electronics store if you're in a hurry and "hot-flash" the bios on a working board. But of course call and see if you can get a free replacement. 🙂

IF BIOS EEPROM can still be flashed :
Please find a working PC.
Download BIOS flash utility (aflash21.exe is recommended) and BIOS image file for your motherboard from ASUS web site, save them into a bootable floppy disk without AUTOEXEC.BAT & CONFIG.SYS files.
Boot the system into DOS mode with the floppy disk.
CAREFULLY take out the BIOS EEPROM from the motherboard.
Plug the faulty BIOS EEPROM into the socket.
Proceed with bios flashing procedure.
After the BIOS is successfully flashed into the EEPROM, take it out and put the original EEPROM back.

To obtain a new BIOS EEPROM (If you are certain that your BIOS EEPROM can not be flashed any more), simply
Send us a letter with your name, address, and telephone number.
List which BIOS you would like (and for reference, what board you have, its revision number, and your current BIOS revision).
Enclose a cheque made out to ASUS Computer International for $25 USD. This will cover the cost of the BIOS chip, the flashing, and shipping via US Post Office Priority Mail.
Credit cards are not accepted. Rush orders will reflect the difference in shipping costs.
Orders from users outside of USA are no longer accepted. The postage address is

6737 Mowry Ave.,
Mowry Business Center Bldg 2,
Newark, CA 94560, USA.

(Henry Kuo, if you couldn't tell I wasn't being sarcastic. Didn't want you to think I was being a jerk.)

Anyway, check my other thread: here

I'm pretty sure that's the problem, if not then it's the mobo as a whole. I can't flash it from another (non-A7V) mobo can I? If so, do I just use the normal procedure? Swap in my BIOS chip then use the boot disk?

Thanks for the help,
Chris

Nah, it's cool. I was in a hurry for my first post, so I just said that short statement. I figure that's not too helpful without another one 😉

bump

also, what version should I download? I want the one with the best overclocking and stability of course.
