Flame Thread - ATI IS THE SUCK

The software for their TV cards is abissmal. So many people complain of so many problems, it's hilarious. Newest problem? On a perfectly fresh install of xp, following their instructions to the letter, their installer will quit for MMC in the middle.... just exit silently. People have emailed ATI about this and they have no idea, they are "looking into it".

Why can't ATI make decent software? The problems with this thing have been going on for months, I'm officially not considering ATI for a LONG time after this. I'd buy an nvidia card that was 20% slower and 10% more expensive before ATI. Atleast their drivers work.

No one is willing to dispute the fact that ATI is the worst company since... well I can't think of a worse one off hand, maybe some company that poisoned kids one time or even FORD 😛

So, because their TV cards suck (one of which I own, and agree with you, the software is terrible), you're not going to buy any more ATi cards at all?
You realize they're two completely separate things right? ATi has shaped up quite a bit since Catalyst came out.
<-- running a 9700 pro.

Why would I bother with a company like this. I have owned 3 nvidia cards so far (only because 3dfx went out of business). Not only have I been exceptionally happy with performance, but the cards have been extremely stable with the detonator series of drivers (i think the first ones i used were 6.31, I may be off) Also ATI has been around for one heck of a long time. They've been making TV cards for quite a long time as well. Why haven't their driver's matured? I've had this card since before christmas... I'd say I've had atleast 2 weeks of being able to use it since then. This is not a minor bug problem or whatever, this is a serious glaring problem which makes the product borderline worthless, I feel like I've been taken.

What is this supposed to mean?
epitome of suckiness at ranting?

I also think ATI's TV tuner software sucks. Don't expect to be able to run anything other than MMC7.9 if you have an Nvidia video card. Other than that I have no problems with ATI.

i had the same crap ass experience w/ ATI tuner cards and i feel the exact same way. i felt ripped off - out of my time and money. i wouldn't go so far as to say that i'd spend 10% more on an nvidia card w/ 20% less performance. i'll just hold out on a purchase. their recent video card fiasco was pretty pathetic, but i cut nvidia some slack because of the kick ass performance of their nforce chipsets. i understand that top of the line cards aren't huge revenue makers, and that nvidia was just shifting focus for a bit. fine w/ me. i'm very happy w/ m ti4600 and will hold out until nvidia gets their sh!t straight in the video card department. and from the reviews i've read, the 6800 seems to be a very excellent solution.

yea the drivers still suck but I love my Radeon 9600 Pro w/ DVI regardless.

*hugs video card*

*gets cut from sharp heatsink*

DAMNIT!

I have has a lot of problems with ATI Tv Wonder as well but their updates always seemed to take care of majority of the problems. Using 9500pro without any problems and had some problems with 9800 AIW but after a RMA it runs great. I really hate the fact that they dont have WIN XP 64 drivers yet 🙁

I guess I should be grateful that I'm forced to use old software with fewer features because I use hardware ATI says is compatible.

Well that was short lived, not much really for ATI, a lot of weak arguments 😛

There are so many ATI fanbois here. Its rather useless to argue with them unless you want the typical "STFU n00b" responses.

Their software works perfectly for me, and I love it. I record my shows just like I have a Tivo, and always have my tuner on using their ThruView feature - it's great. I'm running the latest version of all of their software and drivers, and have only had one problem when I initially bought it 😛

When I had to RMA my AIW 8500DV, they couldn't find anything wrong with it, but they replaced it just in case 😛

Their staff and help service seemed very good when I needed help 😛
