Flaky wireless on a WRT54GL

gopunk

the wireless is crapping out frequently, but sometimes it'll be a couple hours in between, while others only a few minutes. the wired connection to the router works fine, so i know it's not the isp.

what do you guys think it could be? i was thinking it could be interference from a cordless phone or something, but this happens even when i'm standing right next to the router?

and if it is inteference, can this be remedied by getting some more powerful antennas?

Is your SSID On?

Did you Uncheck the power saving of the Wireless client card?

The possibilities of other remedies could be considered pending on your finding the energy to describe your Wireless system beyond the Router's model no.

sorry, i had no idea any of that stuff mattered. the SSID is being broadcast... for power saving, it's set to CAM, which means it's off right? my wireless card is a cisco one, but the wireless craps out for my roommates as well (though often not at the exact same time).

i should add that the signal is consistently strong... but every once in a while i just can't reach websites. sometimes it helps for me to disable and then enable the wireless card, but sometimes it doesn't and it fails during the "acquiring network address" phase.

I cannot tell you if any thing is wrong with your hardware, if you can try another Wireless Router you can rule out Router problems.

Otherwise, make sure that you are using either the original Wireless card utility or Windows Zero configuration, and the one that you are not using is off.

May be you have a strong source of interference, try to assess the situation with Netstumbler, What the Signal Strength Bars mean in Wireless hardware?
