Flaky Forceware foul-up

I don't want to have to switch drivers to play different games.

The 6x.xx drivers screw up old and newer games (1insane, Need for Speed Underground). With 61.76 the games crash on startup. With 66.94 the games load but have horrendously corrupted graphics. Using 56.64 Half-life 2 loses some of its textures and some guns and objects show up white!

Anyone else suffering this problem?

My System:
MSI KT266-2a,
512 MB RAM
AMD Athlon XP 1600+
GeForce 5900XT
SBLive!
WinMe
DirectX v9.0c

Why dont you use the HL2 drivers. They are the 67.03's and are listed in the video drivers thread. If that doesn't work try thr forceware release 70's.

Also make sure you use drivercleaner to uninstall old drivers before updating or "un-updating".

Can you give specs for you PSU (voltage readings under idle and load conditions or just readings in general) as well as temp readings?

Ahh, you see that for WinMe the highest driver released is the 66.94 and that was just in December. I really hope that I see 7x.xx Forceware soon, but I would like a solution before then.

My PSU is a generic 350W unit, but has had no troubles in the past providing enough power (no artifacts, etc.). Temperatures are well within normal. In fact my 5900xt even has a dedicated fan keeping it nice and cool. It is purely a driver issue.

Almost no one uses WinME. I would upgrade to Windows 2000, if at all possible.

Agreed, you'll continue to have driver problems with that horribly unstable operating system.

Time to move up to Windows XP and get the latest drivers. :)

I know I had to go back to the 61.77s so I can get all the shadows in Splinter Cell 2 muiltiplayer, those work fine for me but I can't really say much about newer drivers.

i wouldn't expect too much support for a discontinued operating system.. that ms "extended" EOL until Jun 2006 doesn't mean it's any more viable (it wasn't that great when it came out almost 5 yrs aga). consider yourself lucky the stuff works at all ;)

windows 2000 would be an excellent way to go.
