SInce there are already a million threads bashing the halftime show, I thought I would chime in. Anyone else notice kid rock wearing the flag like a poncho. By the federal code that is illegal, more than that it is disrespectful to the flag. Especially being that he is a drunken buffon. WHy is is that all of a sudden whe everyone went bandwagon patriotic they just screw up the orginal ideals. The flag is meant to be respected, something that is held with high regard as a symbol, both of those who died, and of what they died for. It is not a nifty and trendy shirt, napkin, etc. I was patriotic of the ideals of america far before 9/11. But now I amlost am sickened by some people and the bandwagon sh!t that they go through. Support the ideals, and respect all those who did give their lives for this country, but do it because you believe it, not because it is cool to do now. [/rant]

People were outraged at the flag material lining Bono wore in his jacket during his Super Bowl halftime performance a couple of years ago. I think Kid Rock is getting brushed under the rubble of the Justin/Janet melee.

Kid Rock is borderline retarded....this absolves him from blame in matters of taste. End of story.

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.

Yes, it's "just" a flag. But there is a specific set of rules for its handling.

I like Kid Rock, but he shouldn't have done that.

I really dislike Kid Rock, but fail to see this as a big deal. I don't believe there is anything in the "federal code" that would prohibit this, given that the Supreme Court has consistently held that flag burning is constitutionally-protected free speech.

I don't like to see disrespect for the Flag, although I don't think that was Mr Rock's intention.

I also don't think the Flag is more important than the principles it represents, like freedom of speech.

I agree, but after him taking it off and throwing on the stage how are we supposed to take that?

I missed that part. I tried to watch the half-time show with the sound turned off, but the utter pointlessness of watching Janet Jackson and her dancers do the same routine I saw them do 20 years ago, and it sucked back then too, caused me to feel ill and I had to switch to C-Span for a while to recover.

But if he did do that I would punch him in the nose if I could get too him.

You took the words out of my mouth. Why is everybody being so patriotic lately? I thought patriotism was supposed to be something you believe in, not a new "trendy" thing to do.

White trash who worked his ass off to get where he is today.

As for him wearing the flag, doesn't bother me in the slightest: just another form of expression.

It is strangely ungratifying to see all these "patriots" since half of them are unsincere. Worse off is that it is suddenly all the stupidest people who follow it, (in our area all the dumba$$ hicks), and bring in the owrst ideals, such as racism. All of a sudden we can hate "ragheads", and we should hate muslisms. Sorry but those ideals are against the ideas of freedom. It was freedom for all, not for the people who can stick a flag bumper sticker on, and blame it on someone else.
