Not sure of the best place for this, so here goes:

Brother HL-2270DW Laser printer
Starter cartridge just ran out (rather, toner light went on)

I don't think it's out of toner. It's just a page count limiter
I installed this "flag gear" for $7
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350478356636

However, I still get the toner light, and still can not print.

I thought the reason I bought the flag gear was to bypass the page count.
There is clearly toner left in here, b/c the pages were printing perfectly still.

What am I supposed to do?

Can you help me figure out how to determine my printer's IP?

Is it plugged into the network?

If so, you can probably find the ip on your router.

If not, you can probably just go straight to the printer's options through the control panel or the software on the PC.

Please do the following steps to reset the toner sensor.

- Open the front cover and leave open while completing the following steps.
- Turn the printer off.
- Hold the 'go' button (or "start' button) while turning the printer on. All panel lights should be on.
- Release the 'go' button (or "start' button).
- Press the 'go' button (or "start' button) 2 times.
- Pause. All panel lights should be on.
- Press the 'go' button (or "start' button) 5 times.
The toner light should be off. (error may be flashing)
The paper light should be on or flashing.
- Close cover. The ready light should be the only light on.

I did the steps in that link above.
The toner light went away!

But the printer still wouldn't print anything.
Light was green, but the print job just stays in the queue.
I tried rebooting and turning the printer on/off
Eventually, it started printing!

Thanks for the link, Steltek!!

I suspect that the process of resetting the toner sensor probably also reset the printer to factory defaults (which would have released the IP lease from the router). When you turned it off and back on, it probably obtained a new IP address from your router. You'll probably have to do this any time you use that procedure.

BTW, be careful not to let the toner cartridge run completely dry or you can damage the printer.

Ok, now that I've got the flag gear, I might as well buy the toner refill kit for $7.

I've read that these particular printers can be somewhat sensitive to toner formulation. You probably want to make sure whomever you buy from will guarantee good compatibility with your particular model Brother printer. Otherwise, refilling is usually the best way to go so far as I am concerned.
