FLAC to mp3 to player plugin for Windows Media Player

Can anyone recommed a solution for my dilema?

I have stored all my music on my hard drive in FLAC format.

I use Window Media Player for my library control having added in a plug-in that allows WMP to access the tag info for FLAC files (song name, artist, album, etc.).

However, when I hook up my mp3 player (a Samsung Y-9Z which doesn't accept the FLAC file format), I can't move any of my FLAC songs on to the player.

So what I'm wanting/hoping exists is a plug in for WMP that will take a FLAC file, convert it to mp3, and then sync it on the player all in one step. I don't want any mp3 file saved on the hard drive. Does anything like that exist?

What I'm hoping to avoid: having to convert all of my FLAC files to mp3 files on the hard drive then having to add them all to WMP library (which would then have duplicates of everything....one in mp3 format one in FLAC....yuck) to sync.

Any suggestions? I'm not ready for a new mp3 player (not even sure if any exist that play FLAC files anyway).

Thanks!

i use foobar as my player. in it you can just right click on the flac file and convert it.

you could try using cdex to convert yours.

Barring 3rd party firmware for your player, this is your only option. I keep a separate directory called "converted music" to keep files for use with my mp3 player.

I know nothing about foobar.....will it allow me to sync to an mp3 player........or is it simply a tool that will convert music file types?

I can't tell from looking at the foobar2000 screen shots.

So how do you keep track of duplicate files in your media library (or do you only add the mp3 files?).

Ideally I'd like to play flac files on my computer, but I need mp3 files for the player. Sigh.

I've got almost 1 TB of FLAC files (all my CDs are backed up)......I'd have to go buy another HD just for space for the mp3 player copies. It might just be cheaper to buy a mp3 player that plays flac files after all.

I'm not sure if Foobar has a plugin for syncing or not. I'm pretty low tech with regards to my music. I just drag/drop files to my player. I don't need anything fancy.

There are a number of other media player/library programs that can do this. I'm betting at least one of MediaMonkey, Winamp, J. River Media Jukebox or Songbird will accomplish what you need (convert and sync on-the-fly).
