My mother is choosing an icy New England winter over returning to Florida. And she's got arthritis. Vaccinated, boosted, but wants nothing to do with Florida's ~40% infection rate (and climbing). She's just disgusted.

If you live somewhere in the States where hospitals aren't near breaking point, good for you - now stay there. Just write off the rest of January, weather sucks anyway.
