fixing vista wireless problem: 'local only' connection

I'm trying to solve a vista wireless problem where the wireless connection defaults to 'local only'. MS has instructions here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 on how to fix it.

I made the registry change they specified, but still I get only a 'local only' connection. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Are there other PCs on your router? Are they having the same problem? Is it your router?

If all else fails you can staticly set a compatible IP address on your wireless network card.

the other pc's work fine on this router, and this pc doesn't work on multiple (confirmed working) wireless routers. (the pc can connect fine via ethernet)

I tried setting the router's IP address using the vendor's software, but that didn't seem to have any effect either.
