Fixing split leather (belt)_

I have an inexpensive leather belt that has split near the belt notch that's commonly used. It's the type with two pieces of material that appear glued or pressed together.

I know it's a cheap belt but I personally like it a lot and would like to fix/take care of it. What is the proper way to put the two pieces back together or make it solid again? such as what type of glue/adhesive am I supposed to use for this kind of leather?

This is a complete guess, but I bet superglue would work, since it sticks so well to skin. Barring that, try rubber cement.
