My 80gb 5400rpm (2mb cache) drive died. It was caused by partition Magic conversion from NTFS to FAT32, but it triggered a situation where I can't do anything with the drive now. Lots of problems trying to format , every attempt fails, even took it out of enclosure and put it internally and tried to low level format, but the drive dissapeared when windows was trying to manage it. Sometimes it shows up sometimes it won't... etc so I've kind of given up on this drive for now... Unless anyone else has a solution or instructions on how to low level format this drive (when it is connected internally), the maxtor utitility won't do it.

Anyway, Can I put another ide drive into this case in the future? (say a WD 120gb drive?)

Just curious if I should keep the eclosure around for the future...etc.....

Thanks

Yes, the enclosure will probably work.

Before you give up on the drive I would try using IBM's ZAP utility on it.

Just make sure you nuke the right drive.

Absolutely wonderful utility to have around. The drive will need to be connected to your motherboard IDE controllers for it to work.

I would think that the HD is still warranted...check and see if you can RMA it and if no then Viper GTS stated.
