Fixing problems on an old laptop

I've got an NEC Versa 6000H that I'm trying to bring back into usefulness.
It's having hardware conflicts with the VersaGlide under Win95, 98, and ME.
Basically, the VersaGlide will either only work for a little while or wont' work at all.
I know it works but is just having a hardware conflict because a serial and PS/2 mouse have the same symptoms.

I was wondering if there were any updated driver packages put out by NEC for Win9x, because I haven't come across any and I suspect it might help solve my problem.

Or, lacking that, if there's any way to clear CMOS on this laptop (System Info. on WinME is saying the error is in '*\BIOS\', don't know if that means anything) and start from scratch.

Also, I was wondering if anyone has known these units to produce a tremendous amount of heat. This one certainly does, up to a point where it's painful to have on your lap. I'd like to attribute it to a loose wire, but I don't see any upon taking it apart.

thanks in advance for replies.

I don't know about the bios issues but I do know that A friend has a similar model and it has the same issue with heat... So i think that part is normal.

hmmm interesting.
welp i guess i'll just have to deal with the heat.

I just got my serial touchpad to work on the unit even after a cold boot, I think that's a good sign.
No earthly idea how to get the VersaGlide to stop being so skitzophrenic on me though.
