Hi,
Thanx for looking in.

I have acquired an old Acer / Texas Instruments Extensa 670CD.

The problem with it is that it doesn't seem to do anything!! ;-]

The green charging light comes on if the battery is in. Otherwise, nothing, no lights, sound, heat, smells etc etc.
The battery itself has a good charge [used a tester]. The power supply is the second new one I have used [19v].

Any ideas?
I tried to open the damned thing, and only got so far into it - can't get to the power unit. And how the hell was anyone supposed to change the CMOS battery. Not very user-hardware-fixing-friendly. I know my way round desktops, but this is a whole new ball game.

Hope to read up some excellent ideas b4 the distance test is taken. [How far does it fly?]

Cheers in advance

You may want to unplug the battery for a few minutes.
(it is a DURACELL Smart battery and has a memory)

While you have the battery out, reseat the memory also.

Hi LiLithTecH

Thanx for the post.

I tried your advice.
In fact, I took all the memory out apart from the onboard stuff.
Still no lights, noise, smell etc.

Any other desperate measures?

Sorry,
I just dl'd the user instructions for this laptop.
It seems the laptop is not getting any power at all through, as even the power indicator light does not come on.

The only light ever to come on is the battery charge light.

gimme an old 286 desktop anytime

Try removing the Hard Drive.

If that fails, it maybe the Battery for the BIOS is dead.
(common problem. just hope it didn't leak everywhere)

The battery, hmmm.

I can see it once I strip the laptop apart - going where no geek has gone before.
Can't see how to get to it. It is out of the reach of pliers/fingers/big sticks.

Could that stop all power going into the laptop?
