fixing large resolution issues?

ok guys, I setup a computer to use as a media center for our 42" plasma tv.
The tv is maxent, and I believe the native resolution is 852x480

my question is this: how can I set that kind of resolution, or a ratio of it?
Right now I tried to get the best looking resolution I can get in settings, and even then, most things are huge, and the text is really hard to read (even after enabling big font)

anyone have any tips on how to make large tvs look good with computers as well/
thanks

like I said that's way too small of a resolution, so things look too big. The best looking ratio I found was 1280x720 but the strange thing is it exceeds the size of my tv (so part of the top and part of the bottom are missing from the screen, and I cant get my TV to resize to it)

first, you need to find the exact resolution of your tv. look up the specs and know exactly what the native resolution for your tv is. then, go into your graphic card drivers and from there you can choose a custom resolution that will be the best for your tv.

can you give us the model of your tv and what graphic card you're powering it with?

the tv is http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Maxent-MX-42VM

shows resolution of Display Resolution 852 x 480 pixels

how can I set custom resolutions? Right now the card that's in there is a x1950 256mb. This is only temp, and is in there untill I get all the parts for my new comp. The card that it will be running in the future will be a radeon x850
