bought a 1GB Gigabyte 5850 on CL for $40. Works perfectly but one of the fans in shot. Video card is model GV-R5850C-1GD (Rev1). Whats the cheapest way for me to fix it without spending another $40+ on an aftermarket cooling solution?

I see replacement fans on ebay, but I am not sure what size they are, and/or how easy they are to replace?

Remove the shroud, take out the fan, measure it. Then buy a replacement fan from ebay or electronics stores. Or just strap on a fan using plastic cable ties/rubber bands and power it from a molex connector.

Remove fan, carefully pry out the hub/blades (do NOT damage the stator), clean, oil, reseat, DONE.

Used to have the fans go out on my Sapphire 5830 mining cards (not abusing them other than running the fan at 70%). This fixed them permanently (as far as I can tell - they continued working fine for another whole year until I stopped mining and sold them).

You may be able to match the fan up by the part number on its label to an available OEM replacement -- if you also Google it, you might get a vendor match somewhere else besides eBay.

Or, you could resell it for more than $40 and profit. If you decide to go that route, I'm happy to buy it from you if you are within driving distance from the DC metro area...
