I have a really old cd that i made probably 3 or 4 years ago. The label on the top is peeling off so i cant really access the data without the comptuer freezing. Is there any way i can cover the label with a new label and make i work again or is it shot?
 
If it's one of the cheap CDs where you scratch the data layer if you do anything to the label side, then you're probably screwed, as you probably peeled off the data layer and it's probably so damaged there's nothing readable. It certainly can't hurt to try sticking another label on top of it, the drive can deal with the extra weight well enough to at least read the disc once if it's going to work at all.
 
Perhaps try toothpaste to fill the cracks and such? I hear it working rarely, but an attempt is an attempt.
 
People use toothpaste to try to fill scratches on the underside (laser side), but this is an issue with the label side peeling off, which seems to have peeled the actual data layer off as well. Really cheap CDs tend to have nothing protecting the data layer material from the label side, making it very easy to scratch the data right off your disc.
