I bought a Canon dslr that came with an 18-55 IS that does not work on auto focus. The seller said it was the lens an not the camera, I do not have another lens to test right now though. I saw a couple of links where they were saying this is a potentially cheap and easy fix, has anyone here did this?

It is very likely it is the lens fault here. Take the lens off and clean the contacts, and while you are at it check the body contacts as well.

It is may not worth it to fix the lens if a gear is jammed or broken/worn gears, because the 18-55mm IS is an inexpensive standard lens that can be had used for $50 or less.

Contacts look good, some of the links I saw were saying it is a tore flex cable that costs $5 bucks, I would do that
