Hi all,

I have an A7M266 who's bios is skunked (wrong image, was done by previous owner). I also have an ECS K7S5A which has a pin compatible (the old style) CMOS chip on it. Once upon a time I read an article somewhere about fixing bad flash's on a bios by getting rite to the point of starting the flash and then putting the bad chip onto said working motherboard and flashing. Does that have a hope of working in a scenario like this? What sort of risk am I putting the ECS board through by removing the cmos/bios chip off of it while power is live to the motherboard? Any advice/comments on this obviously high risk manuveur are greatly appreciated. Barring all technical feasability of that scenario working does anyone know where a person can get a replacement cmos/bios chip for the k7m266, asus doesnt respond to my email (and dont say go buy another of that motherboard ;)

Thanks,

Jimmy:confused:

The hot flash procedure you are talking about I believe has to be done on identical boards. Yes, there is also a risk involved to the ECS board. Anytime you remove components from a system while it is powered, you run a risk. You would be better advised to go to BadFlash.com and get a new chip or have your old one reflashed. You can see their prices on this page.
