Ok just for a little update for anybody who helped me in that other thread and was wondering what car I ended up with I got a 2002 Civic EX Coupe, Silver. (my dad convinced me but whatevers).

So anyways, I've barely had the car for a month and I already have a scratch on it!!!! Anyways, even though this Civic was not my first choice I've certainly grown attached to it and the fact that I've barely had it and it already has a scratch just kills me! Anyways, I'm very pissed right now (even though it's my own fault). Our parking garage is really tiny and situated very weird. To make a long story short I was coming out of there when I made the scratch. It's the size of my hand and on the front right corner of my bumper.

My questions are:
1. How much would something like this cost? (the scratch is on the surface)
2. Can I fix it myself?
3. Anyone know a good place in the LA area that could do this type of stuff well and cheaply?

Thanks for any help guys!

Get a Type-R sticker and put it over the scratch. Not only will the scratch be hidden but you'll also get ATLEAST 25 extra hp. ;)

Seriously though how bad of a scratch is it?

Is it scratched through the paint, or just scuffed? you might be able to buff it out.

I *think* it's just scuffed. I could barely look at it, it was too painful! hehe. I just remember seeing white under the paint..and possibly a little black. I think it came from the wall...
well anyways, what is this buffering you speak of and is it easy to do? cheap?

Go out and rub your nail lightly perpendicular to the scratch. Do you feel anything? If you do, its damaged the actual paint. If not, go to your local autozone and buy Scratch X by Meguiar. Follow the instructions and you should be able to get it out.

if you see black then you're seeing plastic, which means you went right through the paint, primer etc. Can you take a picture of it? To fix the scratches on my bumper from my accident cost me $365(canadian) and they had to strip the whole bumper and repaint it so that the colours would match. Take it to a few body shops and ask them to quote prices for you

If it is through the paint, you might be able to "touch-it" with some OEM touch paint. Just be sure to use a very fine paintbrush to do the job.

Hopefully, you can just "buff" it out with some polish.

Don't bother fixing it because you'll just end up getting more and you'll grow used to it.

Back in 97, my 3 day old Prelude SH all scratched up by someone who PUSHED my car forward in order to fit into a small parking space. Week later, someone takes out the corner of my bumper getting out of their parking spot.

99 my 2 month old GS300 some valet back my car into a pole. Didn't notice until I got home. Month later while I was sitting in my car, some granny slams her door into mine. Little later, my mom slams the door into a garbage bin. After that, there were new scratches practically every week.

I used to stress out over it but once its done its done. I just accept people are inconsiderate and irresponsible.

Fortunately now, I have 2 cars so now if I go to a high risk place like a mall or movie complex, I drive my dent magnet beater car.

Last year my Dads 2000 Accord SE had a good size scratch in the fender and he called his insurance company and they said they would pay to get it fixed. The next week he brought his car to the dealer and got it painted. Didn't cost him a dime.

I don't know what type of insurance you have but it might be worth looking into.

I really don't know how he didn't have to pay anything. He doesn't have a $0 deductible though (that would be nice however).

I'll ask him tonight how that actually worked out.
