Hi.
When i was working in my PC a few mins ago, on the mobo end of the IDE cable, the thing that holds the wire in, that has the pins that poke through the wires, came off.
I carefully put it back together, with the pins going back into the wires at the same place.
Now, the cable still works, should i be worryied about anything? Or will it be ok?
Should i buy a new cable just to be sure?

Just keep in mind that even the slightest movement could undo your "fix", which could possibly result in data loss.

I'd look into getting a new cable if I were you.

I always keep spares of those things :p hard drives and cd-roms often come with them.

To me, the ease of mind would be worth much more than the cost of a new cable.

The cables as solid as it was before.
The bit that came out, is back in its latch thing.

I will probably by a replacement when i upgrade in early Jan though.

you can get an ide cable for a dollar or less
that's not worth paying for to protect your data's integrity?

I thought of that whilst watching something on the telly.
Ive got 3-4 old ATA 100 IDE cables. Im gonna put one of them in to replace the HD`s cable.
I havnt got one long enough for the CD drives.
Cos as i can`t remember which cable is bodged, if it turns out to be me CD cable, it wont cause any damage to my data, should a problem occur.

1) You guys were saying how the cable would cause loss of data and whatnot. When the chances are than all that would happen is that i`d lose whatever was in the forground, then the PC would crash.
2) My original comment was asking if it was worth replacing. You answered. I did not critisise that/comment upon that.

-----------------------------------------

I just replaced the cable.
Jeez it was close!
I was just taking the cable off the HDs when i noticed the mobo end had come a little loose!.

Anyway.
What do you guys reacon to this?
