So I was working on a clients computer yesterday and the strangest thing happened.
I installed a firewire/USB card and the internet stopped working. It refuses to get an IP address from the DHCP server and when I try to ipconfig /renew it says that an error occurs because the object is not a socket.

Any ideas?

Sounds like when you installed the drivers for the new card, it step on your current NIC drivers. I would try reinstalling your NIC drivers first.

Go into your network "neighborhood." I think you'll find that Firewire is considered as a network device, and it must have stepped on your other network drivers. It may take removing the Firewire network part.

That was the first thing i tried.
No love.

I think I figured it out though, the firewire networking screwed up the winsock settings.
