fixed: Win 7 + domain: blank screen after admin

I'm doing a Windows 7 test bed on my primary machine at work and I'm running into a weird problem. I get the machine all setup with all of my software (all of which works on Windows 7 as confirmed by my home machine) and add the machine to the domain.

Then I add our group (i.e. domain\Tech) as administrators on the machine, and I get nothing but a blank screen with a white cursor after that. All logins, including local admin, are affected. I can boot into safe mode, but never normal mode.

I have tried changing the machine to a single monitor, using alt-F8 to load last known good configuration after safe mode, using low-res (640x480) mode to boot, and everything has the same result.

I'm googling for answers and doing another test to see what exactly triggers this, but so far I'm not having much luck. I'm getting the computer configured with all of the software again, and then I'm going to set a restore point that I can go back to after testing each time. That method seems to work well at this point.

Any help is much appreciated.

Specs:
Dell OptiPlex 755 with 4gb (4 x 1gb). I have a feeling the issue is with Aero, video drivers, or something, but I can't figure out how that is tied to changing my account to an admin account.,

Solution:

My department is under it's own domain, and the authentication server was not on our domain. When trying to activate windows, I was getting a "error 0x8007232B DNS name not found". I was unable to activate Windows. After some troubleshooting, I was able to add the test bed machine to the other domain, and Windows 7 automatically activated. I then added my group to the admin group on the machine, and everything works perfectly.

Hope this helps someone later...
