THANK YOU ThaGrandCow AND Zolty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes i know this isn't exactly the right place and yes i did just post this in the Networking section! I am also posting it here because there are more people here and I need to fix this NOW! So please if you can help reply, if not or this topic being here annoys you please move on.

OK the laptop was running fine. It has a built in Intel wireless B card and a p-cmcia Belkin MiMo Pre-N card. Both running fine until adware was accidentally instaleld onto it. All the addware was removed using programs and the laptop rebooted. Once booting back in the net connection was gone. It is able to see and connect to wireless networks but it says "limited or no connectivity" due to not being assigned an IP addreess. We have tried 3 different wireless cards and on 2 diff networks with the SAME result, the computer refuses to be assigned an IP.
Yes we tried all the disable/enable, repair, cmd ipconfig/release/renew etc etc etc ! what could be the problem!?!?!?!? We also tried just a regular ol' 10/100 connection to the router and SAME thing.

It has been a week now like this and she is over right now so any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!

192.168.1.30 as a manual IP address, pull up your network connection on the computer you are posting froms status and go to the support tab, then hit details. That will give you all the DNS servers you need, your gateway, and your subnet mask (normally 255.255.255.0). Copy all that into manually into the other computer.

yeah...it is definately a corrupt winsock. that has happened several times over the past few years at work due to removing spyware.

i am not sure where the Support Tab is????
i entered a manial IP, subnet mast 255.255.255.0 and default gateway to the address of my router. I did not enter any DNS Servers. it now says Connected and no longer has the "limited to no connectivity" however it still can't connect to anything including the net

(Assuming you're using WinXP)

Open network connections window from control panel, right-click on the connection you use on the good computer, click on ststus. The window it pops up will have 2 tabs at the top, general and support. You need to have DNS info in there, otherwise you may be connected but unless you're typing in http://<ipaddress> you will get errors. Get the DNS info off the good computer and put it in the bad computer.

Also, do the winsock fix, I'm pretty sure it'll fix it.

you need dns to browse, try 216.165.129.157 (my isps primary)

Also it will always say "connected" when you assign an IP address " limited or no connectivity" implies that it has an auto config IP address.
