please give more information. you started the install process with a hard drive that was not partitioned or formated, or you did that during the install, then you choose to format the drive from within the install process? and when it does it, it restarts the computer, and starts all over again? with the all the quesitons that lead up to the partition/formation questions???

You either have a defective install CD. If you have a hacked copy that could be your problem.

Why don't you partition and format your hard drive before attempting to install XP? Us FDISK.

>My copy of XP is the Indiana University Version. <<

Then go to the Indiana University store where you bought it and ask for a replacement install CD. Also ask them if it will install on any PC or if your PC is compatible with XP.

Before XP installs I think the install CD has a program that checks your PC to see if it is compatible with XP. A good idea is to print the information it comes up with so you can refer back to it.

Ouch, going to have to repeat grammar school on this one, the drive label documented CS, MA, & SL. Gave up & was about to pop in a 120 GB WD I just had lying around (what a treat when I opened it, it was supposed to be a 2mb buffer, but found a red note that said they gave me a 8mb buffer HD instead).

Anyway, the jumper setting wasn't listed on the label for "only drive on cable" but the install help card for the retail drive I had did, moved the jumper, & it naturally started booting from HD... DOH

Thanks for the help though:D
