Got the sound card issue solved...had a blond moment..but recovered.

I may be mentioning the obvious here, but did you disable the onboard sound?

Perhaps someone else with an ASUS A7V266E could help you with that...I'm not using that board, and have no experience with it at all, so I'm not familiar with it. It seems like you've exhausted most of the options though(BIOS, Add/Remove Programs/motherboard jumper/dip switches,etc). Have you tried going to Device Manager and see if there's a CMedia device under Multimedia & Sound? If so try deleting it?
