All Fixed Now. Thanks all!

Hope I don't sound like a noob, but I would love some advice from you fine folks. I have one of those free Hotmail accounts that I use for friends and family. I've had it for years and now I can't log in and access the account anymore. It's been nearly three weeks since I was last able to log in and I've tried at least 5 times a week. Is it gone forever? There are some e-mails that I would like to recover.
I wasn't able to find a customer support e-mail address for hotmail, I'll keep looking.

Also, not sure if this means anything or not but I started to get a regular flow of junk mail in the account about 2 months prior. Not a lot but a few.

Thanks for your help and I hope this post is ok in the Off Topic.

Chris

This is the error I get when I log in.

I started getting junk mail the day after I registered my hotmail account. Hadn't given the address out or anything. That won't affect your ability to access your account.

Site's not down, that's as much as I can tell you. I can log in fine.

Did you take a vacation or something? If you don't log into your hotmail account for a certain amount of time, like 30 days or so, it wipes everything out. A certain period of time beyond that and it deletes the account. I'm not sure of the times but I know that's the way it operates. Might be two weeks/30 days or something like that.

edit: one other possibility. Are you trying to access it through MSN Messenger? If so, you can't access it unless you have the most updated version.

It will do that, but it will let you sign backup with the same name and password.

Did you or anyone using your computer make any changes to IE's settings? If you somehow disabled cookies, you will no be able to log in.

AFAIK, Hotmail uses many different servers. The server that your account is on may be having trouble. Try again tomorrow. Then start worrying.

Aye, aye, aye, no bueno!

I don't know. I have ADD. 😛

Wow! I love this community, thanks for all the quick responses.

Ok an update of things so far. I restored explorer to the default settings. I still get the same error. I also installed the latest MSN Messenger 4.7 to see if I can access my e-mails that way. What?s interesting is that it can see my account; it says I have 45 new e-mails. When I click on it to get my e-mails it opens explorer, I enter my password and then I get that same error I posted earlier. I know the password is correct. It?s just so odd. Maybe it?ll clear up in a day or 2.

Feel free to throw any more ideas my way. I?ll keep at it.

Thanks again for all your help.

I doubt it will clear up in a day or 2 if it's been 3 weeks. Sounds like a Passport.net problem/issue, since Messenger doesn't use that to access your account. (It does when you read your emails though) Have you cleared out your cache completely? All cookies and temporary internet files? Tried using another browser?

Well for the first time I tried to check my e-mail from work and it works fine. Not sure why there would suddenly be a problem with my home computer. Any who, that's another problem I'll try and solve on my own. Thanks again all!
