When connected to router and u can confirm internet and everything is working (even if u cant), go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /all

Look at your gateway, that is the IP addy u need to add into your browser to get to the setup page.

Oh just reread your post.

If you are getting the 169.xxx IP addy, then your DHCP server in the router is not giving your computer an IP addy. Check the cables 1st, then check the LAN ports on rotuer!

If a dhcp isn't available for some reason, as in turned off in the router somehow, xp will auto assign an ip not compatable with the 192.168.0.1. Try going to the tcp/ip properties and assigning 192.168.0.2 to your pc with 192.168.0.1 as the gateway, then try and login, make sure dhcp is enabled then go back and turn your tcp/ip to obtain automatically. That might be what you meant when you said you tried to force it but who knows. Hope that helps.

funny - I had the exact same problem this weekend, drove me so mad!! But finally, I figured it out ... it had something to do with the MAC addresss ...

I have a linksys BEFRS41 so I'm not sure if it works. Basically, I had to reset the router. What I was doing wrong was that I hit the reset button and let go, the correct way to reset the router was to hold the button, until the red light comes on then goes off then you release the reset button. Afterwards it worked, I was able to access the 192.168...

hope this helps, cuz I was really to take a baseball ball and destroy that stupid router ...

anyone know why my email would be messed up in eudora now?

since hooking up the router, eudora won't connect to the mail server. says
connection timed out. maybe the mail server is just down but its odd that
it happened right when I added in the router.

anyone got any ideas at all why my email in eudora wouldn't be
connecting to mail server now? Do I need to open any ports in
my router config?

TIA

okay i found something out... since adding in the router... for the domain name in the router config
it put r31.insightbb.com

Now when eudora checks my email.. it wants to contact server mail.r31.insightbb.com instead of just
mail.insightbb.com which i believe it was doing before I added the router in.

Anyone got insightbb.com or know what the solution for me is?
