I just built a system and the Motherboard has two ide slots. I can not get my computer to recognize more then one component on one IDE slot. For instance if I plug in my hard drive and the burner on the same cable it will not recognize my hard drive. If I unplug the cable form my burner it is fine. If I plug my dvd and burner on the same cable it boots up because my hard drive is on its own cable but windows does not recognize the cd devices. If I unplug the dvd or burner it will recognize the device still plugged in. Help please.

First off, clear your bios, or at least the IDE Auto-Detect (or equivilatnt thereof) options you can find in it.

Now, double check your jumpers. Make sure if you're usuing ata/66 or ata/100 that your master is at the end of the chain, and your slave in the middle. Make sure you have the right end plugged into the board.

When all is set, boot up and root through your bios to see what detected.

then get back to us 🙂 (while you're at it let us know more about your setup)
