Anyway, unscrew the plates on the handle or lock mechanism, remove lock mechanism, use screw driver to pull bolt out of frame.

You can't remove the knob (or lock if free standing deadbolt) and expose the big round hole that goes through the door?

turn the part with the rectangular hole on the inside of the shaft. a flat screwdriver should do the trick.

tried that. it does not pull the part that is sopposed to slide out of the frame and allow the door to open. it just stays inplace.

also thats just to lock or unlock it.

Remove the other side of the knob so that center post is gone. Then try to hook the slider with the screwdriver and slide it away from the frame.

Sorry waggy, time to turn in your tools. Form follows function. If you can't figure out a door lock...well.

At this point it may be necessary to remove the door trim and try to push the bolt back into the door.

Oh my god some people have problems with basic thought processes. Pop the pins out of the hinges with a punch or screwdriver, and pull the hinge side of the door out of the frame.
