Fixed Network, Now can't get internet

I just managed to install a network between my 2 machines with a switch and I now have my CABLE MODEM plugged into the uplink port (which is on uplink) The person at netgear said that I could get internet on the computer that originally got it, but it won't connect on through. The network works fine, and I even reset the modem (something you do when it has been unplugged from the comp) HOW can I get my internet to run through the switch to my computer?

Unless you have two IP addresses from your provider, you will need to install some form of proxy software such as ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), built in to Win98SE and Win2K, or an aftermarket product such as Sygate or AnalogX.
