[FIXED]HL2: Freeze at loading screen[FIXED]

ugh....Well I've had the game since it came out and its a great game. I beat it on normal and i want to beat it on hard now. So i start up steam and try and load up HL2. It's all going great, Launches the game, The wierd screw in the eye guy pops up and than it goes to the loading screen. Well It was taking longer than expected to start the game so i went downstairs to make a sandwhich. I come back up and it's still at the loading screen, no HDD activity. I reinstall steam and try again. Again the same thing.

has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? Its really buggy me

you reinstalled steam? as in you uninstalled everything, and redownloaded 3.x gigs of content?
prolly some sort of corruption in your Steam game files, sometimes if the game detects something amiss, it'll force a recheck, or you can delete the game files (GCL i think, or just the big files in the steam folder) and it'll redownload them from Steam servers..
try that and report

Yes i fully deleted steam and reinstalled it (3gigs of content)

I actually did it 2 times and each time the same thing.

you completly deleted your steam folder? and ALL its contents?
then reinstalled and redownloaded HL2... (musta took a while)

but other than that i'm outa ideas, you prolly get better luck at the valve/steam forums, and getting support from the Source (no pun intended )

yea it did take some time Maybe it has to do with that new patch they released?
I'll go over to the steam forums and see if they can help

I'm having this problem too.

I read that they made some security patch, where you can't play it on a DVD writer drive?? That's such BS! That's all I have on my laptop! My PSU is being RMA'd, so I won't be able to play it on my desktop for at least a few days!


...this SUCKS.

I had a similar problem, but the game crashed to desktop rather than hanging. I coped all the files from the /bin folder to the base HL2 folder, and it worked.

Well I took SuTuRa's advice from steampowered forums and it worked . You can see the whole thread in the link above.

Just leave the comp on at the loading screen and wait until it loads. It took me 20 minutes but it finally got to the main screen. I rebooted and tried it again and didnt have to wait 20 minutes again for it to load. Loaded right up. Hope this helps any other people with this problem.
