*FIXED* Having Driver Issues with Widescreen

Ok, i have an Acer AL2016W with a Geforce 7600GS. I have just barely reinstalled windows XP. The problem is, the monitor is widescreen with a widescreen native resolution (1680 x 1050) but when I set it at that, no dice, it treats the monitor as a regular display and will scroll over when I put my mouse to the edge (eg, the whole screen is not displayed on the monitor, so when I move my mouse to the side, the screen is moved)

Im perplexed, the monitor was working fine before I reinstalled windows, and now it is kuputsky. Any help?

Well, after doing a bit of digging, I found that it is a problem with NVIDIA's new drivers (quite a common one as well.) *Fixed* You have to do some monkeying with the manage custom monitor settings. PITA

could you elaborate on this? I'm having this same problem using my 22" widescreen on my gf's crappy computer until I buy my new one.

certainly, It is a problem with NVIDIA's drivers, like I said, but you arn't out of luck.

1. Set the resolution to the one you desire to use (this set me back a bit as I was using a lower resolution)
2. open the Nvdia Control panel
3. Click on "Manage Custom Resolutions"
4. Ignore any and all warnings from nvidia (don't remember where they come in, but it is around here) Basicly they say if you screw up and your monitor dies it is not NVIDIA's fault and your warranty will be void.
5. Check the "Allow modes not exposed by the display"
6. Click The create button.
7. Everything here should be set to the resolution you want (if not change it). Again, it is easier to set the resolution you want before you get to this point.
8. click the advanced button.
9. Click the "Timing standard" List box and select Manual.
10. Change the Active Horizontal Pixels box to match your resolution. (and the vertical line as well)
11. In the "Front-end parameters" area, use the dropdown next to "Scaling Type" and select "Display (none)"
12. Change nothing else, click the test button, and see if it works. If so, Ok, and exit out of everything.

Hey, I'm having the same issue too but I was unable to resolve it using your instructions.
I followed it to the word but at step 12, it said the test failed.

I'm using an Acer AL2016W Display and eVGA 7800GT.
