spending millions of dollars on stupid ads for a stupid nationwide alert system that probably wouldn't be available to the people needed to be alerted.

It's all tied into the tornado sirens and other alert systems (tv, satellite, cable TV, radio, weatherband, I've even heard tests on XM radio), so you'd have to be brain dead to not notice a real emergency alert. It's highly redundant as well.

You should go look up all the different alerts it has. I got a "shelter in place" alarm a while back.

So... Did this even happen? I never heard a thing.

Possibly the most epic fail of this century?

Ohh... Wednesday. Not today. Might want to fix that OP.

TiVo pisses me off.
Every time one of these things comes up it displays the message even if I am watching RECORDED television. And then the local utility always seems to buffer it with 15 minutes of promos for "community" events.

Don't get me started on amber alerts.
If I am sitting on my ass watching TV what makes you think I am going to see that car you are looking for.

even if it were today - I was asleep at 2pm... would I have been eaten by zombies and not known?

Saw the TV ad and told the wife that would be a perfect time for a terrorist attack.

Can I catch this on hulu or a podcast? I just got rid of my TV, haven't had a radio in ages, and I really don't want to miss anything impotent.

Heh, just got home from work. I got the info from our facility manager, who sent an email this morning announcing the test. Then she sent another email correcting the date to be tomorrow (Wed). That correction email came at 4:30 PM!

Will fix the OP.
