On craigslist i've seen quite a few ads over people selling " Fixed cable modems" which supposedly puts an end on monthly internet bills.

Please give opinions, they ask for $150...

I think the first 4 or 5 posts gave you the correct answer: regardless of whether or not it's possible, don't do it. -DrPizza
p.s. It would be really funny if it was the cable company running those ads, then they kept the modems, made you pay for them, and followed up your report to the police of "stolen cable box" with the evidence to show that you filed a false report, as well as attempted to steal their services. (if you were to attempt this)

and then when they find you...you will be sued and charged with crimes.

And then it's called theft of services. Say hello to a FPMITAP if you go that route.

Only $150 for free broadband and surprise butt-sechs? Count me in.
