Fixed aspect resolution on CRT?

Obviously most LCDs will allow 1:1 pixel mapping for resolutions smaller than the native resolution of the monitor. I would like to be able to do something similiar on my 19" crt. When I use an older game or app that only supports 640x480 or 800x600, it looks terrible on such a large screen. How can I configure the video driver (latest NVidia) to scale or shrink these low resolutions to use a much smaller display space? The zoom on the monitor will only do so much.

I thought CRTs drew the image with protons, I do not think they have pixels the same way LCDs do. But I am in no way an expert.

I believe you misunderstood me. I realize that CRTs don't have fixed pixels, but I want the video drivers to treat low resolutions like it did have "fixed pixels". In other words, I would like to use 640x480 as if it is being drawn on a 1280x1024 screen. All the timings of the higher resolution, but only 640x480 (or 800x600) is used. I would have essentially a very big black border around my visable area. I hope this helps with my confusing request.

That only works to a degree. A 640x480 image needs to be only about 12-13" of visable monitor space, but unfortunately the zoom does get it near
small enough.
